The memoir I tried 3 times over 10 years, still dead at page 120

Kept picking up this famous writer's life story at different airports, Chicago, Denver, Dallas. Every time I hit the same chapter about his college years and my eyes glaze over. Has anyone else had a book that just refuses to stick no matter how many chances you give it?

Actually, I'm going to push back on this. You say your eyes glaze over at the same chapter every time, but maybe that's on you, not the book. That college section is probably doing exactly what it's supposed to do, building the foundation for everything that comes later in his life. You keep picking it up at airports, which means you're reading it in short bursts between flights and layovers, and that's just not how a memoir like this works. It's not a page turner, it's a slow burn, and you're treating it like a thriller. Ten years and three tries means you've never actually given it a real chance, you've just given it three half chances. Maybe the real problem is that you want the book to meet you where you are, instead of you meeting it where it is.
