That Stephen King doorstop I quit after 150 pages because of one weird detail

I picked up 'Under the Dome' from a used book sale for $1.50 and was super excited. But I got to page 150 and noticed every single chapter had a whole page of town gossip about characters I couldn't keep straight. There were like 40 named residents introduced in the first 100 pages and I kept flipping back to remember who was who. I finally looked it up and found out the book has over 200 named characters total. That fact hit me hard and I just put the book down. I realized I don't have the patience for that many people in one story. Has anyone else given up on a book because there were just way too many characters to track?

200 named characters is insane lol. Makes sense you quit, that’s way too many people to keep straight. Life’s too short for that kind of homework.

People really act like tracking fictional names is a job or something.
