Gave up on Dune at page 150, then finished it on audio in 9 days

I quit Dune twice because of all the made up words and politics in the first hundred pages, but a friend said to try the audiobook on my drive to work and I knocked it out in 9 days. Was it the book getting better or just that I couldn't skim past the boring parts? Curious if anyone else has switched formats and actually finished something they gave up on.
