Gave up on Dune 60 pages in until my brother in Fresno asked me one question
He asked if I was picturing the desert as empty and I admitted I was, so I tried again seeing it as crowded with people, politics, and water battles and finished it 3 weeks later. Anyone else need someone to point out the one thing you got wrong before a book clicks?

Why was your brain even defaulting to empty though? Herbert wrote whole chapters about water being worth more than gold and families killing each other over spice, so I feel like the page count is right there if you're paying attention. What was it about the desert that made your mind go blank in the first place?
