DNF'd a 700 page fantasy epic at page 612, friend called me a quitter
Last month I was reading The Bone Ships trilogy spinoff, got to page 612 of 700 and just closed it. My friend said I was throwing away 3 years of waiting for that release. But I kept asking myself, why force finish when I stopped caring about the sea dragon politics around page 480? I think quitting close to the end is different than quitting early, like sunk cost versus actual curiosity. Has anyone else bailed within the final 10 percent, and do you regret it or feel relief?
Kept watching a show for 4 seasons even after I lost interest, and finally bailing felt like taking off tight shoes. Sunk cost sneaks into everything from streaming queues to half-finished projects, and stopping is usually the relief, not the regret.
