Hot take: A Farewell to Arms at 22 in a Spokane hotel hit way harder than it should have
Stayed up until 3am finishing it in a Spokane hotel room three years ago while on a work trip, and when I hit that last page about the rain I just sat there staring at the wall. I had read the same copy in high school and felt nothing, but something about being 22 and alone in a strange city made the whole thing land different. My buddy who recommended it said I was being dramatic, but I don't think he's ever finished a book past midnight in a hotel that smells like old carpet. Did a certain age or place ever make a book hit you completely different than the first time?
