Dropped $45 on a used copy of A Little Life with no dust jacket, and I had to put it down twice
I found it at a used book stall in Portland for $45, no jacket, coffee ring on the cover, and I almost walked away from that price. Read the first 200 pages in two nights, then stalled out for a week because I knew what was coming. I ugly cried on my couch at 1am during one scene and my dog just stared at me. Finished it in 11 days total, which is nuts for a 700+ page book. Now I keep wondering if I would have felt the same about the ending if I had paid full price for a clean copy, or if the beat-up one made it hit harder. What is the most you have ever paid for a used book that wrecked you?

Man, that coffee ring probably did add something. Mine was a $3 thrift copy of The Road and I still had to sit in my car after.
