Why does nobody talk about spine lining material choices?

I see some binders always use linen for spine linings, while others stick with strong paper. I had a thick text block that kept cracking at the hinge. After testing both, I found linen gave more flexibility but paper was easier to work with. What do you all prefer for heavy books?

Wow, the great spine lining debate really shows how two people can have totally opposite experiences with the same stuff. Seriously, one person's bubble nightmare is another person's perfect smooth finish, all depending on that glue thickness. Guess it proves we're all just guessing until the book falls apart or doesn't. Makes you wonder if we're even using the same materials sometimes...

Isn't linen more likely to bubble if the glue isn't even? Paper just lays flatter on heavy books for me.

That's funny, I've always found linen easier to handle actually.
