So I counted all the books I've repaired this year, I was shocked at the total

I was cleaning up my workshop last weekend and decided to tally up all the bindings I've done in 2024. The number came to 47 books, which is way more than I expected since I only work part time on this. Most were vintage hardcovers with broken hinges, but I also did 8 new leather bindings for a collector in Portland. Has anyone else kept track of their yearly output and found it was higher or lower than you thought?

Hold on, I gotta push back on this a little. I mean, 47 books is a solid number for part time work, don't get me wrong. But I think counting them up like that can be kinda misleading. If you're only tracking the finished ones, you're not counting the ones you had to set aside because they were too far gone or the ones that took way longer than expected. I know for me, I've got a stack of half-finished projects that would double my count if I was being honest about the actual work I'm doing. The real number of books I've actually touched and spent time on is way bigger than just the ones I've finished. So it's not really about the final number, it's about the effort that goes into each book and how many you're juggling at once.
