Picked waxed linen over synthetic thread for a family bible repair and I'm second guessing it
Had to rebind a water damaged bible for a coworker's mom in Dayton last month. The original sewing was gone so it came down to waxed linen or bonded nylon, and I went with the linen because it felt right for an old book. Three weeks later the spine is holding fine but the thread squeaks when you open it past 90 degrees. I'm worried it'll wear through the signature folds faster than the nylon would have. Has anyone used linen on a book that gets opened a lot, and did the squeak go away or should I redo it?
