Is it better to push a dull blade or swap mid-project on a 500 page text block?

I heard a guy at the shop say he never sharpens mid-sewing, just powers through until the cut gets rough. That feels backwards to me since I switched blades halfway through a job last week and the final edge looked way cleaner. Anyone else got a strong take on when to stop and sharpen?

and that's exactly why I always swap now, even on long runs. I did the same thing on a 400 page block last month, pushed a dull blade to the end and the last fifty pages looked scratched up compared to the start. Sharpening costs me five minutes, but redoing a section costs way more than that.
