Blew 5 hours on a warped spine because I refused to trim the text block first
I was casing in a rebind of a 1970s paperback last month and the boards kept bowing no matter how much I pressed them, so I spent 5 hours re-gluing and clamping before admitting the spine was just too thick at 2 inches. I finally squared up the text block with my guillotine and it cased in perfect on the next run. Why do we always reach for more glue instead of fixing the actual shape of the book first?
