Rant: that $1 clearance cart at Half Price Books is not a gold mine
I keep seeing people bragging about finding first editions on the dollar cart at the Half Price Books on Northwest Highway in Dallas, and I think it is mostly wishful thinking. Last month I dug through that cart for 40 minutes and pulled 12 books, and the only one worth keeping was a beat up paperback copy of Cannery Row with a coffee ring on the cover. People mistake a yellowed page and an old copyright date for value when most of it is book club printings and ex-library copies. Does anyone actually check the ISBN and print line on their cart finds, or is it all vibes?
