Rant: Bought a signed first edition at a flea market, turns out it was a library discard

Honestly, I paid $18 for a beat-up thriller with a signature I thought was real, but the inside stamp said 'Nashville Public Library - withdrawn' and the author's autograph was printed on the dust jacket. Ngl, I was mad for a day, but then I realized the scribbles in the margins from some rando reader made it more interesting than any clean copy I own. Has anyone else picked up a 'rare' find that turned out to be someone's leftover, and did you keep it or dump it?

Have you kept any of the margin notes, or did you just leave them in the book? Those little scribbles are like a secret conversation from a stranger, and honestly that's way cooler than a machine printed signature. I'd keep it, flaws and all, cause a beat up book with a story inside the story is worth way more than what you paid.
