My cousin called my 25 cent yard sale paperbacks 'junk' and I haven't stopped thinking about it
My cousin was over at my place in Boise last Saturday and saw the stack of 14 old paperbacks I grabbed for a quarter each at a yard sale on Maple Street, and she said 'why even bother with those when you can just get everything free on your phone.' I told her half the fun is the cracked spine and the name written inside from 1987, plus I found a Vonnegut I'd never seen in that edition. Does anyone else get weird looks for loving the beat up old stuff more than the shiny new copies?
You ever open one and find a receipt or a bus ticket from 30 years ago? That's the stuff you can't get on a phone. I had a similar thing happen when my sister gave me grief over a box of old sci-fi paperbacks I paid a buck for, and honestly I just stopped explaining myself. The cracked spine and the name in pen are the whole point. A screen can't give you that.
