Estate sale in St. Louis had a whole box of vintage sci-fi paperbacks for $12

I stopped by an estate sale last Saturday in St. Louis and this little old lady had a cardboard box under a table labeled 'old books, make an offer.' I dug through and there were maybe 30 Asimov and Clarke paperbacks from the 70s, some with covers falling off but all readable. I paid $12 for the lot, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has luck scoring whole collections at estate sales or if that was just a one-time miracle?

My rule for estate sales is check the last day, usually Sunday, when they drop prices to clear stuff out. I grabbed a full set of Larry Niven paperbacks in Dallas for $8 that way, plus a box of old pulps nobody wanted because they smelled like mothballs. The trick is asking if they got more boxes in the back, half the time the family just wants it gone and will take any offer. Watch for water damage and silverfish holes, I've bought lots that looked fine until I got home and pages crumbled. For $12 you did fine, especially if you got some of the early Clarke stuff, that's the money books if you ever decide to flip them.
