Went to a tube rolling job in Gary and the foreman pointed out I was beveling the wrong side for 2 years
Last Tuesday I was fitting a 6 inch header at the shop in Gary and the foreman walked over and asked why my bevel was on the outside edge. I told him that's how I was taught back when I hired in. He pulled out the shop drawing with the detail callout and showed me the bevel goes on the tube face that meets the weld prep, not the backside. Sure enough I pulled out an old fit-up from 2 years back on my phone and it had the same mistake, and it passed the X-ray anyway because the root gap was fat. Now I'm second guessing every joint I ran before this. Has anyone else had a fit-up habit corrected after years of doing it one way?
