Hot take: a 30 year guy told me my tube rolling was too fast and it stuck with me
Was rolling tubes on a boiler retube job in Gary back in February and an old hand watched me for ten minutes before he said anything. He told me I was running the expander too fast and putting in 3 passes when 2 slow ones would seat better, and he was right because my first two tubes leaked on hydro. I slowed the gun down and cut a pass, and we passed the next test with zero weeps. Now I time each roll with a count instead of going by feel. Anybody else get a tip like that from someone who barely said two words to them?
