Dropped $45 on a wooden insert for Terraforming Mars, and now setup takes 20 minutes instead of an hour
I grabbed one of those laser cut wooden organizers at a convention in Cleveland about 6 months back, and I figured it was just another overpriced box of trays. Turns out it cut my setup time almost in half, and our group finally gets two games in on a weeknight instead of one. So what's the one upgrade, insert, or gadget you dropped real money on that was worth it, or the one you regret buying?
Man, I gotta disagree with you on this one. Forty five bucks to save forty minutes of setup... that math only works if you play the same game every single week, and even then you just spent almost as much as the game itself costs on a box that holds cardboard. Our group just started using a lazy susan for the tiles and a few cheap bead boxes from the craft store for the cubes, maybe ten dollars total, and setup is down to like twenty five minutes anyway. Half the fun of game night is everybody pitching in and sorting stuff while we talk, it's not dead time you need to fix. A wooden insert doesn't make the game better, it just makes your shelf look nicer, and I'd rather put that money toward a new game. If it works for your group then cool, but I don't get why people act like inserts are some must have upgrade.
