The anvil I got from my grandad finally taught me something after 20 years
Picked up his old 150 pound Peter Wright at the estate sale last spring. Never really used it much, kept using the newer one I bought in Denver. Last month I needed a heavier face for a big drawout job and switched them around. The rebound felt totally different, like the steel just moved better off the old face. Turns out the face had a slight crown I never noticed, all those years of use wore it that way. My hammer work got cleaner once I matched my swing to that curve. Now I check every anvil face with a straight edge before I start a project. Anyone else come across a worn anvil that actually improved their forging?
