Shoutout to the old timer at the PA forge meet who told me to normalize twice before quenching
I thought he was just being slow but my 1084 blades stopped cracking in the quench tank after I started doing it. Anyone else get taught this by a random stranger at a hammer-in?

Had a guy named Walt at a hammer-in in Ohio tell me the same thing about 1084 and I blew him off too. Two normalizing cycles before the quench and my crack rate went from about one in four to almost nothing. Those old guys know way more than we give them credit for.
