Can we talk about the $40 online "beginner blacksmithing course" that was just 6 hours of a guy reading a catalog out loud?
I bought it back in March thinking I'd finally learn heat treating, but it never once showed a forge running, so save your money and watch the free videos or better yet find a local smith to watch in person, and has anyone found a class near them that was actually worth the fee?
Forty bucks for a guy reading a catalog out loud is annoying but I wouldn't call it some big scam. Six hours of anything for $40 is cheap when you think about it, so the real problem is the course just wasn't any good. Heat treating is the one thing you can't learn from talking anyway, you need to see color and quench and all that. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather spend that money on gas driving to a local shop and asking to watch. Some folks learn fine from free videos, some need hands on, and that course just didn't give you either.
