Why does that sequel's last chapter pretend the first book never happened?
Last month I finished a fantasy series where book two ignored the entire cliffhanger from book one, like the author forgot their own plot. The final chapter even reintroduced a character who died on page 214 of the first book, no explanation at all. I checked the publication dates and it wasn't a different draft or anything. Has anyone else run into sequels that just ghost their own continuity like this?

Dead on page 214 and then just back walking around like nothing happened? That's wild, you'd think someone would've caught that in editing at least once. Sounds like the author straight up ghosted their own outline, honestly some editors really need to earn their paycheck.
