Three years later I finally got to meet my son's adoptive parents face to face
Last week in a small coffee shop in Portland, I sat down with them for the first time since the adoption paperwork went through back in 2021. We spent two hours just talking about his first steps, his favorite foods, and how he laughs at his own farts. I had been so scared they would judge me or that it would be awkward, but they brought a photo album with his baby pictures. Has anyone else done an open adoption meeting years later and had it go better than you expected?

My buddy Jake met his kid's adoptive parents at a diner and ended up crying with laughter over old videos.

Different take here. That sounds nice and all but meeting the adoptive parents at a diner and laughing over old videos feels a little too relaxed for me. Jake gave up his kid and now he's just casually cracking up with the strangers who raised them? That kid might not think it's so funny if they ever find out their birth dad was swapping jokes with their parents instead of raising them. I get that it's supposed to be a heartwarming moment but it comes off like Jake doesn't fully grasp the weight of what happened. Laughter seems like a weird way to handle that kind of loss.
