Open adoption agreement changed after 5 years, I had no say

We set up visits twice a year with my son's adoptive parents back in 2019, then they moved to Ohio and just stopped responding last March. Has anyone else had an agreement fall apart once the adoptive family relocated?

Did you ever look into whether your state's laws say anything about keeping contact agreements once they move out of state? Because here is the thing people don't tell you. Once they cross state lines, your agreement usually falls under whatever the new state says, and most states don't care about open adoption deals at all. They are not even worth the paper they are printed on in a lot of places. So the move to Ohio probably gave them an easy out and they knew it. You can try to take it back to court where the adoption was finalized, but that only works if the judge signed off on the contact terms in the first place. If it was just a handshake deal between you and them, you are mostly stuck. Get a lawyer who knows adoption law in both states and find out what you can actually do.
