I used to think all adoption agencies were basically the same
For a long time, I just went with the big national one near me because it was easy. But after talking to a friend who placed her baby 6 months ago, I looked into a smaller, local non-profit agency. The difference was huge. The big agency had a standard 2-week counseling plan, but the local one offered ongoing support for a full year after placement, no extra cost. They also let her pick the adoptive family from a much wider pool of profiles, not just a handful. I wish I had known to compare the actual services and support timelines, not just the name on the building. Has anyone else had a better experience with a specific type of agency?

Wow, that's a huge difference. Did your friend say if the local agency had any downsides, like a longer wait time?

Yeah, my buddy went with the local place and the wait was the real catch. He said it took almost three weeks just to get the first meeting set up because they were so busy. They did great work, but he was stuck in a hotel for a full week longer than he planned. That part really stung, @james_ross. You save a ton of money, but you trade away time for sure.
