TIL The Office was almost canceled after season 2

I was reading an old interview with Greg Daniels and he said the ratings were so low in season 2 that NBC nearly pulled the plug. They only got a third season because Steve Carell's movie 'The 40 Year Old Virgin' blew up that summer. I always thought it was a hit from the start. Has anyone else found out a show they love almost didn't make it?

Yeah, that "hit from the start" thing is a total illusion for so many shows. I remember being shocked when I found out Seinfeld almost got axed after its first season.

The Office had awful ratings at first too, @the_jessica. It's crazy how many classics almost didn't make it.

Yeah that "hit from the start" thing is wild. My buddy was obsessed with this one show that got canceled super fast, and now it's a huge cult thing.
