Found a trick for pressing in headset cups without a proper press

I had to replace a headset on an old Trek last weekend and didn't have my press handy. Threaded a long bolt through a stack of washers and a spare headset bearing on each side, then just tightened it down slowly. It pressed in perfectly straight with zero binding. Has anyone else used a makeshift contraption like that for something?
