Watch your balcony pots after a hot day, I lost 3 seedlings in one afternoon last Tuesday
Last Tuesday hit 96 degrees here in Fresno and I figured my cherry tomato and basil starts would be fine since they looked great that morning. Came home around 6 and the two tomato seedlings were flat and crispy, and the basil was slumped over the rim of the pot. The soil in those black plastic containers felt like hot sand when I stuck a finger in, so the roots basically cooked even though I watered at 7am. I moved everything into light colored pots and put up a cheap shade cloth on the railing, and the survivors bounced back within a day. Has anyone found a shade setup that doesn't turn the balcony into a wind tunnel?
