TIL those cheap fabric grow bags can toast your pepper plants

I grabbed a 5-pack of those $12 non-woven fabric pots off Amazon and thought I was being smart. By mid-July in Austin my jalapeno roots were literally cooking through the sides when temps hit triple digits. Anyone else had fabric bags overheat their balcony plants or am I doing something wrong?

My buddy out in Phoenix tried those same bags with his habaneros last summer. He set them on a concrete patio that got hammered by afternoon sun and said the roots actually started browning and getting crispy on the outside of the soil. He ended up wrapping the pots in old towels and moving them to a spot that got morning sun only after that. It worked pretty well for the rest of the season.

literally cooking through the sides" is wild but yeah that tracks. Fabric pots are great for airflow but in direct sun they basically turn into plant ovens. You gotta set em inside a cache pot or put some shade cloth around.
