I thought my balcony was too shady for tomatoes until last month
My building faces north in Chicago and I only get about 3 hours of direct sun, so I stuck with herbs for years. I tried a single 'Sun Gold' cherry tomato plant in a big pot on a whim, and it's already covered in little green fruit. Has anyone else had luck with specific tomato types in low light spots?

I mean, that's cool but it's just one plant. Idk if it's a big deal until you get a full harvest.

Actually, the first green fruit is a huge sign it's working. Sun Golds are known for setting fruit even with less light, so that's a really good pick. I had a similar thing happen with a patio variety called 'Tiny Tim' last year.

Totally get what you're saying about waiting for the full harvest, but that first fruit got me pumped last season. I stuck with a consistent watering schedule and used a basic liquid tomato feed every other week. Ended up with a solid amount from just one Sun Gold plant on my balcony, enough for salads all summer lol. It really does start with that one green tomato.
