I finally stopped using deep pots for tomatoes after a windy day in Denver

A gust knocked over a full 5-gallon bucket, snapping the main stem, so now I use wide, shallow planters for better stability. Has anyone else switched to low-profile containers for tall plants?

Remember reading about someone using those big plastic storage bins with holes drilled in the bottom. They're super wide and only about a foot deep, perfect for tomatoes. You can even get two plants in one if you space them out. The low center of gravity makes them almost impossible to tip over. I might try that next season instead of my regular pots.

Wait, you were growing a tomato in a straight up 5 gallon bucket? That's wild, I've only ever seen those for potatoes. No wonder it tipped, that's like a giant sail on a stick. I switched to those short, wide fabric pots last year and they're way better in the wind.

What size fabric pots did you end up using for tomatoes?
