Unpopular opinion: a terrible bake session taught me more than a perfect one ever did
Last Tuesday I decided to make a simple batch of chocolate chip cookies for a neighbor who just had a baby. I measured everything, preheated the oven to 375, and felt good. But I grabbed baking soda instead of baking powder by mistake, and the cookies spread into one giant flat sheet on the pan. I was so mad I almost threw the whole thing in the trash. Then I remembered a tip from a friend in Portland: flat cookies make great ice cream sandwiches. So I let it cool, cut it into squares, and stuffed vanilla ice cream between them. My neighbor texted me later saying it was the best dessert she had all week. That got me thinking: do we learn more from total fails or from perfect bakes? Some people say you only grow when you mess up, but I also think a win gives you confidence to keep going. What do you all think? Was your worst bake actually a hidden win?
