Warning: Don't waste your money on that fancy sourdough proofing basket
I spent $45 on a high-end banneton basket from some specialty baking store online. After three uses, it started falling apart - the cane fibers were poking through the liner and ruining my dough's shape. I should've just stuck with my old mixing bowl and a clean kitchen towel that cost me nothing. Has anyone else had luck with a cheaper brand or is this just how bannetons work?

Figured I was just being cheap but sounds like the quality really ain't there... I was about to drop $50 on one of those bamboo ones from a big brand site, you just saved me the headache. Guess I'll keep using my beat up metal bowl and a flour sack towel, works fine for me and never tears up my dough.

Yeah, that beat up metal bowl and flour sack towel combo is honestly underrated. I used to chase those expensive wooden bowls thinking they'd make a difference but the truth is they dry out and crack no matter what you do. I've been using a glass mixing bowl for years now and it's way easier to clean and never leaves splinters in my dough. Save the money for good flour or something.
