Vent: The bakery on 5th in Canton puts salt in their buttercream and I can't stop thinking about it
Stopped at a little bakery in Canton last week while visiting my sister. Ordered a chocolate cupcake and the frosting tasted like straight salted butter. I asked the girl at the counter and she said the owner does it on purpose, claims it cuts the sweet. Gave it a second bite and honestly it kind of worked? Now I'm wondering if I should try it on my next batch of buttercream or if that's just nuts. Anyone here ever messed with salt in their frosting?
Salt in buttercream sounds like a crime until you try it and realize the bakery might be onto something. A tiny pinch really does wake up the flavor instead of just making everything taste like a sweet brick. Next time just don't tell your guests, let them wonder why your frosting is weirdly good.
