Chose between a $9 tin of yeast and a $2 pack of the same stuff, and the cheap one won
Needed yeast for a Saturday bake of 4 loaves and the store had a fancy imported tin for $9 or the plain $2 foil pack, so I grabbed both to test side by side. Same rise, same crumb, and honestly the $2 one proofed a hair faster in my 78 degree kitchen, which felt like a small victory. Anyone else done a blind test like this and been surprised, or is it just me being cheap?
Four loaves on a Saturday is a good bake, and the $2 pack coming out ahead at 78 degrees says a lot. I've had the same thing happen with store brand flour more than once. Cheap wins are still wins, nothing wrong with that.
