Why does nobody talk about using solar chargers on the Appalachian Trail

I was near Roan Mountain in Tennessee last May and my power bank died on day three, so I strapped a 14-watt panel to my pack and it kept my phone alive for the whole stretch - has anyone else tried this on longer routes?

14 watts? Dude, that's triple what I used - I had a 5 watt panel and it barely kept my phone alive in the Shenandoahs last fall. Wait, you strapped it to your pack and it actually worked? I always assumed the bouncing and tree cover would make it useless.

Wait, wouldn't that shade out the panel most of the day on the trail?
