Noticed more folks skipping the well-known AT sections for obscure state trails this summer
Last month I ran into three different groups on the Buckeye Trail in Ohio who said they deliberately avoided the Appalachian Trail crowds, has anyone else seen this shift toward lesser known routes?

Are you sure it's not just that the well-known sections are getting too popular to handle? I met a guy on the Long Trail who said the same thing, but then we ran into about twenty other people that same day on a less popular loop near Killington. Seems like everyone's chasing the exact same "off the beaten path" spots now.

Killington's a perfect example honestly, those side loops used to be dead quiet five years ago but now they're packed. I think the social media thing just blew up and everyone saw the same three posts about "secret spots" and now those spots are gone. It's like the harder people try to find solitude, the more they accidentally lead everyone else right to it.
