Just made it through my first solo night on the Superior Trail
Three years ago I would not even camp alone in my backyard, but last week I drove up to the Superior Hiking Trail near Duluth and did a 14 mile loop over two days. I planned for months, checked the weather like 20 times, and still got a little scared around 9pm when the woods got quiet. I set up my tent at the French River campsite, cooked some instant noodles, and listened to the water below the bluff. The sunrise the next morning over Lake Superior was worth every anxious minute. I honestly did not think I could handle the map reading and bear hang by myself, but it all clicked. Has anyone else pushed through that first solo trip fear, and how did you pick your route? I want to try a 3 day stretch next month somewhere along the North Shore.
