Finally cracked the water carry problem on the High Sierra Trail with one dumb trick
I kept running dry on the stretch between Hamilton Lakes and Precipice Lake, which is like 8 miles of pure sun with zero water sources. I tried a bigger bladder but that just made my pack feel like a bag of concrete. Then I started freezing one 1L bottle solid the night before and burying it in my pack next to my spine, and it melts slow enough to sip cold water all day and honestly it keeps my back from cooking. Did a dry run on the Cottonwood Lakes loop over Memorial Day and it worked great. Anyone else do the frozen bottle thing or am I just late to this?
