Counted my trail miles over 9 days in the Winds and got 87, way off from my 60 guess
I keep a little notebook for route notes and finally added up the numbers from my Cirque of the Towers loop plus a side trip to Jackass Pass. My plan said 60 miles but the real total was 87, and the extra 27 explained why my knees felt wrecked by day 6. The biggest surprise was that 14 of those miles came from two wrong turns near Texas Pass where the cairns faded out. Now I add a 20 percent buffer to every route estimate before I pick camp spots. Anyone else find their real mileage runs way higher than the guidebook number?
