Warning: a lead from 2019 said to skip the resistance check on the pitot heat, and it cost me a night in Wichita
An old lead I worked with at a shop in Wichita said the pitot heat resistance check was a waste of time if the element looked clean, so I started skipping it on quick turnarounds. Last month a 172 came back with a cold probe in icing conditions and the element was half open, which meant a 6 hour repair and an angry phone call from the owner. Is it worth doing the full check every time even on a 30 minute turn, or do you guys have a better way to catch these early?
