My stubborn habit of checking connectors before software
I mean, maybe it's just me, but jumping straight to the computer feels like skipping steps. Last week, a simple wiggle test found a bad pin that the diagnostics said was fine.

Come on, modern connections are pretty solid these days. Software can find problems way faster than poking at wires.

Modern connections are solid? My server room's full of brand new gear with connection issues software never catches.

David's got it right with server rooms. New gear means new cables and fresh chances for factory defects or ports that just don't seat right. Software only checks for logical signals, not if the physical link is barely hanging on. A rack getting bumped during install can cause problems that only show up when you reseat the cable.
