Turbo lag tune was snake oil until I hit 90 in 4th gear

I ran a cheap ECU flash from a local guy in Phoenix and thought it was all marketing fluff for the first 200 miles. Then I got on I-10 and the boost curve filled in around 3,800 RPM instead of 4,600, and my 0-60 dropped from 6.8 to 6.1 seconds. Anyone else have a mod they wrote off that turned out to actually do something specific, or am I just getting lucky with the dyno numbers?
