That time I swapped my intake manifold gasket on a 2005 Mustang in my driveway last July

Spent 6 hours cussing at a rusted bolt under 95 degree heat in Dallas, but the vacuum leak is gone and the idle smoothed right out. Anyone else ever tackle a job way outside your skill level and somehow pull it off?

Don't really see it that way. There's a difference between pushing your limits and taking a real risk with something that could leave you stranded. Too many people dive into repairs they don't understand and end up making things worse or causing safety issues down the road.

Stella calling it "taking a real risk" is fair, but I think there's walking the line and then there's just plain stubbornness. My first clutch job on a 2000 Civic was a hot mess of jack stands and YouTube videos, took me three afternoons and a lot of cussing. Still, it taught me more about how a car actually works than any book ever did. You gotta know your own limits though, if you can't tell a brake line from a fuel line maybe don't start there. But for me, that 6 hour driveway cuss fest is how you level up.
