A buddy's throwaway joke made me question my whole intake setup

We were bench racing last week and he said 'you know that aluminum tube is just a fancy straw, right?' about my cold air intake. Made me actually measure the temps, found it was pulling 15 degrees hotter than stock near the brake duct. Has anyone else run a temp logger and found their 'upgrade' was a downgrade?
