I finally got a clear shot of the Orion Nebula and my neighbor thought it was a UFO

Last week, I was out in my backyard in Phoenix with my telescope and camera, super excited about the long exposure I just took. I showed the glowing red image to my neighbor over the fence, and he got all serious and said, 'You know, the government doesn't want us to see those.' Anyone else have people completely misread their astro photos?

Full conspiracy" is right, some folks just see what they want to see.

Oh man, that's a classic. I've had folks mistake a decent shot of Saturn's rings for a "secret satellite" or some sort of lens flare for an alien craft. It's funny how a little wonder can tip over into full conspiracy for some people. Makes you realize just how unfamiliar most folks are with what's actually up there. I just smile and nod now, it's not worth the argument.
