Game night turned weird when my deep-space shot got called a jellyfish

I finally got a clear image of the Crab Nebula with my backyard setup and decided to share it at a friend's gathering. Everyone huddled around my phone screen, and my cousin peeked over and seriously asked if it was a picture of a jellyfish. The room went quiet for a second before we all burst out laughing. It dawned on me right then that most people don't see the universe the way astronomy buffs do. To them, nebulae are just colorful blobs without a story. Now I keep a few comparison shots on hand, like putting a coin next to the moon for scale. That awkward moment taught me to lead with context instead of just dropping cosmic photos. It makes sharing this hobby a lot more fun for everyone.

The cousin calling it a jellyfish is totally something my family would do.

Haha, your cousin calling it a jellyfish really hits home. My family would probably do something even sillier, like argue over what kind of jellyfish it is. We once spent an hour arguing if a cloud looked more like a dog or a sheep. It's like we have a talent for missing the point entirely. I guess it's just how families bond over the weirdest stuff. Makes me wonder what else we've all misnamed over the years.
