The archivist's note that made me ditch my highlighter habit
Tbh I used to mark up everything in neon until an archivist told me my margins looked like a crime scene. Switched to pencil notes in the back, and now I actually remember what I read and can sell the old books without guilt. Anyone else get called out for their marginalia style?

Ha, guilty as charged. I used to write so hard in the margins that the ink bled through to the next page, and a librarian once asked me if I was trying to underline the whole chapter. Now I keep a small notebook with page numbers instead, and it's honestly cheaper than ruining books I might want to pass on.
