Good week at the reference desk after a long dry spell

Had a Tuesday last week where I actually helped 8 people in a row find what they needed. One was a kid looking for a specific old graphic novel about space hamsters, and I tracked it down in a library 3 towns over. Felt good after 2 months of mostly answering printer questions and giving directions. The quiet weeks really make you doubt yourself. Anyone else have those stretches where you wonder if you're even helping anyone?

Oh man, that space hamster graphic novel thing is wild. I love when you have to go on a wild goose chase like that, it's like being a detective but with books. I had a similar feeling last month when someone asked me for a specific cookbook from the 80s called "Microwave Magic" and I actually found a copy in the basement archives. Felt like I won the lottery for like a day. But yeah, those quiet weeks are brutal, I start second-guessing everything and wondering if I even remember how to do my job.

Is finding a cookbook really that deep though? It's not solving world hunger.
